Obscure Advent Calendars

December 12, 2016

Here at milk we know the best part of Christmas is when you can eat all of the advent calendar chocolates – don’t deny it, we all do it. But advent calendars have become much more than just a way to binge on chocolates, and people have been creating spectacular handmade calendars with all sorts of novelty gifts hidden behind their doors.

Starting early on next year’s wish-list, we have searched the internet and compiled a list of curious, wonderful and desirable advent calendars on the market this Christmas season.

Whether you’re a tea or coffee person, there are advent calendars to suit both tastes. This year Fortnum & Mason have created a stunning design for their Christmas Tea Lover’s Advent Calendar. Twenty-four different flavoured teas form the Fortnum & Mason tea collection and rumour has it that they have included two infusions that have yet to be launched. But for the people that prefer a good cup of coffee, notonthehighstreet offer a trip around the world with their coffee advent calendar, featuring twenty-four different artisan roasted coffees from around the world.

Both of these delicious advent calendars will keep you well stocked during December. Keep ahold of your favourites and make sure to top up your supply in the new year!

Memory photo advent calendar

The holiday season is all about making memories and sharing them with your closest friends and family. One way of making someone’s Christmas season extra special is with a personalised photo advent calendar, displaying favourite images each day leading up to Christmas. A variety of choices are listed on notonthehighstreet including ones created to look like bunting or a photo frame, displaying polaroid style pictures. This is a novel way to celebrate the year, one which presents memories of family and friends each morning of December.

And of course we can’t forget the kiddies; they love their advent calendars, and not just the chocolate ones. For the children, and the adults who are still young at heart, there are calendars that will get creative sparks flying. Play-Doh has created an advent calendar that provides twenty-four different moulds and stamps to make spectacular Play-Doh creations  during December. However, if building is more your thing Lego have just the thing for you. Every day up to Christmas, you and your siblings or friends can enjoy the gifts that these advent calendars have behind their doors, and you can piece together the Playmobil Christmas on the Farm or the Lego City Christmas scene.

Pet treat advent calendar

Pets are loved members of the family, so it only seems right to get them involved with the Christmas celebrations. They can now have their own advent calendars filled with treats. Notonthehighstreet sells a lovely pet calendar, which is made up of twenty-four individual reusable boxes filled with bone shaped biscuits for dogs or small treats for cats. Celebrate with your most loved pets this December by treating them every day of this month.

Who among us hasn’t loved receiving beauty products or the beloved Nivea gift box for Christmas? Lucky for us, many shops have now taken this classic gift further. The Body Shop, Molten Brown, Debenhams and Jo Malone have created special Christmas advent calendars filled with all kinds of beauty and skincare products. Grab yourself a bargain with these discounts while they last – sometimes these calendars can sell for half of what they’re worth!

Out of all the advent calendars we found, our favourite here at milk has to be the flavoured tea selection; but of course we wouldn’t say no to some beauty gifts to pamper ourselves with – maybe for next year’s countdown! Whether you decide on a novel advent calendar, make your own or stick with the trusted chocolate treasures, make next year’s countdown to Christmas more exciting and choose one for yourself.

Make sure to tweet us your chosen advent calendar to @MilkBathSpa!
