April Keen is currently finishing the final tweaks of her debut album, ready to be released later this month. Head down to Bath Spa University’s Student Union for an exclusive performance of her new material on Wednesday 8 February. April is touring with the Coffee House Sessions – an organisation which helps talented musicians break into the industry and has supported artists such as Brit Nominee Izzy Bizu and The Carnabys.
April’s debut single Against the Tide is a beautiful slow ballad which showcases her stunning vocal range and strikes an emotional chord. April draws her influences from artists such as Bon Iver, Daughter and Aurora. Against the Tide was released last spring and gained huge recognition from BBC Introducing – a platform which supports unsigned artists and promotes them across national radio.
In a pre-tour interview with April, she was super excited about ‘getting the chance to play to so many people my age all around the country! I’m visiting so many places that I’ve never even been myself.’
As an artist, April is driven by reaching out to people with her music in whatever way she can. She says ‘I want to make people feel something when they’re listening to my music. I’d like somebody to listen to my songs and for it to help them to get through their day, whatever it may bring.’
April has always been on the move. She is currently working in London on her music but originated from the Philippines and spent her childhood surrounded by the seaside music scene in Blackpool. April reminisces her hometown and urges us to visit: ‘Blackpool is much cheaper than London! I can buy six drinks on a Monday for the price of one in London – that’s crazy! If you get the chance then go to a gig at the Winter Gardens in the Empress Ballroom, it’s a stunning room.’
The Coffee House sessions is a fantastic opportunity for April Keen to break into the industry. The sessions aim to bring live music back into a busy working day at university; show your support and grab your friends on Wednesday 8 February at 3pm for an exclusive acoustic performance from April Keen.
In the meantime, keep up to date with April Keen’s album on her website and check out her Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
