Duke and Duchess of Sussex Welcome New Baby Boy

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have given birth to their first child, at 05:26 on the 6th of May 2019. Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy, and Prince Harry has since reported that both mother and baby are doing incredibly well.

The Royal Baby was weighed at 7lbs and 3oz, and he is 7th in line to the throne. He will be the Queen’s 8th great-grandchild, and she has since expressed her excitement for his arrival. The Royal Family released an official statement on their Instagram page this afternoon, claiming the Queen, and other members of the family, are delighted with the news.

Baby Names

The baby is yet to be named, and Megan and Harry are still thinking about what to call him. Many people believed that the baby would be a girl, and some popular predictions for names were Victoria, Ivy and Diana. In regard to male names, Arthur was highly betted on, a name used many times in the Royal Family tree, including as Prince William’s middle name.

Although Megan’s pregnancy was announced in October last year, the couple decided to keep things as private as possible. They did not announce a specific due date, but told the public that the baby would be arriving some time in the spring of 2019. In the last few weeks, the nation have been speculating when the day would arrive. The palace announced in the early hours of this morning that Megan had officially gone into labour, and so the countries wait was over.

Support and Celebrations

Many took to social media to send their congratulations to the happy couple. The news of the Royal Baby has been trending on Twitter throughout the day, with many familiar faces tweeting about their excitement. Michelle and Barack Obama, and Jeremy Corbyn were a few amongst those showing their support for the Duke and Duchess. Crowds gathered outside of the Windsor Castle following the news to celebrate the birth.

The Royal couple kept the location of the pregnancy a secret, wanting a chance to celebrate the occasion away from the public eye, with close intimate family. The Prince was present at the birth, and in an interview with Sky News, described it as ‘the most amazing experience I could have ever possibly imagined’. Megan and Harry have planned to introduce the Royal Baby to the public in a couple of days time, and it is expected that we will also be told the name of the new baby boy.
